Holidays

I have always loved the holidays! My favorite is either 4th of July or Thanksgiving, mainly because people get to wrapped up in the gifts than spending time with family and friends. This year JP had a week off November 9-18, so we went home. That was our Thanksgiving/Christmas run, since he had to work last night and will have to work Christmas eve, Christmas Day, New Years eve and New Years day. It was a long world wind trip, but I think we managed to see most all of our family. On the way back from the airport we managed a trip to the BassPro Shop. JP and Casey thought that stop was a must. I will say I kinda enjoyed it though. They had the bottom part of store set up like Santa's Winter Wonderland. Santa was there for pictures with his elves and a few reindeer. They had little games/toys set up to play with and fudge galore. It was pretty neat in my eyes. Casey and JP went hunting, moma and I went antique shopping. When we got to Mark and Sharon's, we tried to play rummy.

Yesterday, we went to Canyon to spend time with some of Nanny's family. Canyon is about an hour and a half from Lubbock. Jered and Kim have just moved into their new house and had her brothers and parents and all of his family over. It was quite a crowd. There was so much food, after we ate it didn't look like anyone had touched anything. I was so excited that they invited us over! Although I was prepared for it to just be us, I wasn't really looking forward to it. Last year I tried to cook for just us and it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. :)

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Bucky

Last Sunday we found the cutest puppy...the sucker I am wanted him so we got him! He is a Boston mix. We aren't sure what he is mixed with, the lady said they didn't realize that she was pregnant. I'm sure in about 6 months we will see. I wanted to call him Patches because of the patch over his eye, but JP didn't like it. He goes around acting like a bucking bull spinning around so I decided on the name Bucky or Buck. He loves to play with Tuck and Gunner and snuggle!

Rewind...

A few weeks ago JP's brother and his wife, Matt and Beka, came to visit! We went to the corn maze and watched a lot of football! Beka had her first experience with Caine's, I'm sure it will not be the last. Next time we'll make it to the drive in!

Cold Weather

So yesterday seemed like it as the first day of winter! We went to the gun range about 3 and ended up coming home by 5 because it was so cold, 45 degrees. So when we got home I made the comment that we should build a fire in the fireplace! Great idea right! So we went outside and used the logs that Gunner has been playing with since we got here! It was very nice and cozy! Right now it is 35 degrees. I know it's colder in other places, Tabitha said it was down right cold in Cheyenne. I mean we have nothing on the foot of snow they had yesterday morning but still! Hope you all stay warm!

Gunner wanted to help.

Our first fire in our new house!

YAY JP!!!

JP finished his 911 dispatcher training this week, no more geography! I am so proud of him! I know it has been super tough! YAY JP!

Just a Little Rest

This past few weeks have been crazy, but the last especially. Last year when I couldn't find a job, I worked with a staffing company at the South Plains Fair taking tickets. Yes it was a little boring, but I found out a lot about the citizens of Lubbock, the fair brings out the best and the worst crowds. This year, I decided I would do it again. You see I ended up with the best job by the end of the fair, walking the robot and I knew I would get to do it again. Rock-it is a 9 foot robot with mad dance skills, the ability to make children scream and women melt, and the masses laugh. Since last Friday, I have been at the fair everyday as soon as I get off work, JP asked if I feel like a Carnie yet. Rock-it comes out of the coliseum to meet the crowds that are in line for the concerts, Boys-2-Men and Billy Currington just to name a few, and the children that are both amazed and scared by the purple giant. This year, along with his scooter rides, Rock-it signed autographs, everyone was amazed and wanted one. The questions always rise, "Is there a man in there?", "Is that a real robot?" "Where are your controls?", and "How does he do that?" People really amaze me! :)

The guys that run the outside entertainment were amazing. I was invited to attend a BB-Q where I got to meet many of the entertainers and here their stories of how they got to be where they are today. From the bear show to the shark show, they were all completely different.

I'll have to admit that I will miss them, but I'm ready for a little bit of rest. I have met JP at the PD before he goes to work for a few minutes the nights I could. He admitted yesterday that he was ready to "have me back", I think it is just so I will wash some clothes. :)

Hope you all have a great week!

Out comes the stars!

I honestly wonder if my nerves are shot! So much has gone on in the past 2 months! The wreck, buying the house, packing, unpacking (kinda), finally getting a new vehicle or 2, and now the possibility of a new position at work, it's no wonder I had such a migraine last week! I hold a lot in and it had to find a way out! I'm supposedly the new assistant buyer for the City of Lubbock. I'm actually nervous about tomorrow! I know I can do it, but I'm not sure that they think I can. I see the look of uncertainty in their eyes, and it really bothers me! Hopefully tomorrow will go alright!

I did have a huge oops today! So, while I'm up on the stool putting up my sign, I turn around to talk to Tiffany and decide to I'm done hanging stuff. Well the bright and clumsy person I am, decided I was going to slide down the wall and sit on the stool. Well that stool decided it didn't wanna cooperate with me, and slid out from under me! I busted it! After I got over the shock of falling, I laughed at myself for a good 30 minutes. I so should have known better!

On a positive note, I have gone through boxes in 'my' room. I have gotten some pictures up and arranged some of my scrapbook stuff. I am starting a star collection for this room...any size, color, or shape. It will go with my "Reach for the Stars" sign I made a while back!

Let the Countdown Begin!

This time next week JP and I will be homeowners! YAY! We are scheduled to close at 11:30 Friday morning. Hopefully this weekend we can get more stuff ready!

Totaled

So it's official, they totaled my car. So for the second time this year we will be looking for another vehicle. We had only had that car since March. :*( Maybe JP's right..."When buying a car, buy American. When buying for Heather, buy a tank." Such love in those words! :)

Just my luck!

Today has not been the best of days. Yes I woke up in time to get to work early, but I didn't actually make it there. Since they messed up the Marsha Sharp ramp that I usually get on to make it to work I had to go down 19th. Where traffic merges the guy in front of me slowed down to let others merge in front. My foot slipped off the break to the gas. I couldn't get back to the break in time and smacked the bumper of a Ford Escape. It didn't hurt his vehicle much at all. He was really more worried about getting to work than his car, but I made him stay for the police. Luckily JP was at home...I screamed him out of bed to come to my rescue. When I got out of the car it was still running and in drive...not a good sign. The radiator was leaking and pretty much punched into the car. The airbags didn't activate and the seat belt didn't catch like it's supposed to during a wreck. I wasn't hurt too bad. I have a nice bruise where my left leg meets my hip and sore on my left side but I'm alive and still kicking.

Our House!

Last Thursday, JP and I decided to go ahead and put a bid on the house we have been looking at for a few months. We had heard that the lady that owns the house is pretty difficult to work with so we were kinda worried about how it would work out. We didn't hear anything Friday, Saturday, or Sunday...needless to say everytime I talked to JP he was asking if I had heard anything yet. Finally Monday afternoon our realtor called with a counter offer, and we counter offered again. We were thinking she wouldn't accept it, since she was supposed to be such a tough lady, and started looking at other houses online. We even scheduled a time to actually go into a few houses so we wouldn't lose anytime. That afternoon our realtor called back to say she accepted out terms! :) We are so excited! The house is super cute and will be even cuter after we add a little be of own personal touch to it! We have scheduled the inspection for next Thursday. If everything goes well there we will be under contract for the house. We scheduled to close twards the end of July to give the bank plenty of time to get everything together. They said that some refinancing of houses were taking 60 days or more, so we didn't want to risk anything.

JP picked me up from work on Tuesday and we went to Lowe's to look at paint and flooring stuff! It's so exciting! We have a whole list of things that we imagine doing to our house over time! It's almost like a dream!

Hope you have a Friday and weekend!

If you click on the virtual tour you can see the whole house.

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Today is my official hire date for the City of Lubbock. I signed most of my paperwork Friday, with the exception to the benefit package. At orientation I will sign all the benefit stuff. It's so great to know that I have the job, after 3 months of being a temp! Everyone seems to be excited that I'm on board. Unlike some of my other jobs, there isn't any drama with someone not liking someone because they don't do their job right or the clash of personalities. Everyone seems down to earth, laid back and very friendly.

JP has had an interesting few weeks at work. Things are continuing to get better! With him working 10-6 I've seen him a lot more than the 2-10 shift. I've really enjoyed it! His sleep schedule is still off but hopefully it will get closer to normal when he gets a set shift, next month I think. He has started cooking breakfast or bringing something home. It's quite nice to wake up to him rather than the alarm clock!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

RELIEF!

This weekend was pretty rough! Friday night laying in bed I began to twitch...again. I knew the rest of the weekend was pretty much shot! I woke up Saturday morning feeling ok...not great but good enough! JP came home and wanted to go eat breakfast. WONDERFUL! I love me some Ihop...strawberry stuffed french toast YUMMY! When we get home it's nap time right after all it's 7 am after all is said and done. After waking up from the nap I felt a shot to the head! I was pretty weak! I crawled back into bed but the pillows over my eyes, which felt amazing, and went back to sleep. I know it sounds horrible to sleep all day but with these migraines I can't do much else. We got up and found something to eat for supper and got a few movies to watch. During the movies the nausea and sharp pain/pressure in my eyes started, some of the many perks of migraines! Sunday was not much better. The sharp sudden pain to the right side of my head brought me to my knees many times and the twitching came again Sunday night. Today I decided enough was enough and went to the doctor. He told me he though it was a combination of tension headache, migraine, and muscle spasms. He gave me Frova for the migraine and then a shot of cortisone and zylacane in my shoulder to relieve the tension. Almost immediately I felt relief, then weakness (I'm a fainter)! It was amazing that in such a short time I didn't feel the knots in my shoulder! I wonder how long it will last? They also had me on some oxygen. The lady went out to get JP before they gave me the shot and told me she was going to tell him it was something really bad. He laughed so hard when he saw me with the oxygen on! After working at the assisted living center I wonder how those ladies and men deal with being on oxygen all the time! It would drive me nuts!
I'm so glad that JP was there! He cracked me up the whole time! I would have been a mess without him, plus they wouldn't have given it to me!
Hallelujah for medicine and a good husband!

It's been a while...

Life in Lubbock has been anything but normal this week! It was good to see Parkerson/Norris/Barker clan last weekend! We definitely had a good time cooking and catching up some! Thank you for leaving all the desserts in my refrigerator! I see them ever time I open the door...they scream eat me! :)

JP started working midnights this week. He has gone in early a couple of times for overtime which is good and bad. Good because well obviously more money, but bad because he goes in around 6 close to when I get home. I'm kinda partial to seeing him everyday for more than 10 minutes. :) It's taking a little while to get adjusted to going to bed without him. I've tried to get the dogs in the bed with me, Tucker will but Gunner won't. Tuck will curl up against my leg and start snoring, literally. During the day Gunner will love all over me eating up the attention he gets. But at night he will get on the bed while the light is on, but as soon as I turn it off he jumps off and crawls under the bed. JP claims that Gunner is a one person dog and I'm starting to believe him. Last night I got scared, silly little sounds. I grabbed their pens and brought them into the bedroom. Gunner roamed around the floor for a while until I took one of JP's under shirts and put it into his pen. He crawled in and fell asleep. Good thing they can't talk or they would be telling me how crazy I am!

Wednesday Ashley and I went and grabbed some foil for my night owl to sleep during the day. We taped the foil to the windows to blackout the room. It was so funny/odd to wake up Thursday morning and not see any light in the bedroom. I almost turned around and went back to sleep until I looked at the clock and decided I needed to get up to get ready for work. This week is supposed to be the week I can start working as a real city employee. Hopefully everything will turn out the way it's been planned, by both parties. I don't want to have to look for another job! :) but I know everything will work out for the best!

On a last and funny note, I rented Hotel for Dogs tonight. Gunner and Tuck started watching it with me. As they watched the dogs started barking in the movie. They ran around the house, barking, trying to find them and then to the door as to let them in. :)

James 4

This week we are to read over James 4. Some of it is hard to swallow. I know I had read it before, but now it really makes me think about things that are going on, not only in my live but the world as a whole.

James 4:1-17
1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is it not the source of your pleasures that wage war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendships with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wished to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scriptures speaks to no purpose "He jealously desires the Spirit which He made to dwell in us?" 6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE."
7 Submit therefore to God Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you Cleanse your hands sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be miserable and mourn and weep, let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will exalt you
11 Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge the One who is able to save and to destroy but who are you who judge your neighbor?
13 Come now, you who say "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. 15 Instead say "If the Lord wills we live and also do this or that."
16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance, all such boasting is evil
17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

I know there are times I catch myself judging people, when I have no place, wanting what others have when I have great things myself, but desire bigger and better. I have prayed for things with selfish intentions and wondered why things didn't turn out the way I wanted, not even thinking/realizing that God knows MY HEART as well as he knows anyone else's.
Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword and piercing as far as the divisions of the soul and spirit of both joints and marrow and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart and there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

It just made me think how often we let things slip by like know one knows what's going on inside out head or 'our world'. God knows...EVERYTHING! Every peep or thought that crosses our mind he knows! Trust in Him. Rely on Him and not things or people of the world. He provides for the birds of the air, would he not do the same for us. He will not give you more than you can handle. Let things happen all in God's good time.

Just a few things that went through my head after my reading. Maybe it can be today's scripture/reflection for you...it's only words unless you apply it.

Have a FABULOUS weekend!

EEEEWWWW.....Yucky Birthday Weather

Today started out such a nice pretty 'Happy Birthday JP' day! Around 4:15 or so one of the guys from the managers office came and told us we needed to go to the basement right away. There had been a tornado warning (one had been sighted) and it was getting nasty outside. We stayed in the basement for over an hour waiting on the weather to pass. Luckily there wasn't a touchdown near us or even in the city. There was hail quarter sized! Driving home I passed several dealerships. It looked like it had snowed on their lots! The streets were flooded, many that should have been closed. I'm surprised that I made it home. JP has been at work since 2 and has said that work has been busy!! I can only imagine! It has started hailing again at the house and the dogs didn't like it hitting the window! More yucky weather to come! I'm sure many pictures of this will be posted on the internet, and I didn't take any, but here is a site that has a few good ones and more to come! I hope everyone has a dry night!

I am my daddy's girl!

When I was little, I remember dragging out of bed early (6:30 to a 5 year old is ear l y) to eat breakfast before school. Daddy would be sitting in his chair and I would crawl up into his lap wearing a 'meaner than a junk pile bass' t-shirt and sporting a horrible Dorothy Hamill haircut. He would be doctoring his coffee and I would tell him "Inna wine it Daddy...Inna wine it!" meaning I want to wind/stir his coffee. See Daddy likes milk and sugar in his coffee...not black like Momma.

Well yesterday I broke down and got a coffee pot intending to use it to make coffee not hot water like I normally would. Staying up waiting for JP makes me seriously tired during the day, but I need/have to see him so I stay up so I can spend sometime with him....it stinks not having him around the house when I'm home! Anyways...so I got the coffee pot that you can program and since I don't like the thought of regular coffee I got french vanilla. I wake up this morning get in the shower and my coffee is ready when I get out. I took a sip of it straight without adding anything and I almost thought I had made a BAD decision. So I add a little bit of milk and try it...not too bad, but still missing something. I add a little sugar, but it still needs more. Finally I got it to taste the way I wanted and drank the whole pot...not all before I left for work though I had to take some with me. I have been on a caffeine high all day! Tomorrow I think I'll do it again! :)

I've been cleaning and cooking supper for JP when he gets home. The dogs and I miss him! Waiting on the weekend...maybe we can do something exciting!

Bikes and such

For JP's birthday we got bikes. I know it was early but I'd rather be early than late. So after testing them out on the street, we decided to take them to the park. It sounded easy enough, after all they have a road that goes around it. If you know JP, which I should have known better, he wanted to go off-roading. I thought he was going to KILL ME! I haven't ridden a bike since at least high school, if not junior high. Riding wasn't the problem, it was the shifting gears that got to me! I couldn't figure them out...leave it to me. I definately have to figure it out before we take them to Palo Dura Canyon! Sunday afternoons will become our bike riding/park time...so we think!

This week starts JP's 5 weeks of 2-10 shift dispatching. This should be an interesting week! I know when I was working 2:30 to 11, there were nights I couldn't wind down until 2 or 3. Then I didn't want to wake up until 12, unless I had school then 7 am mornings were horrible, with a nap to come after class! So our schedules will be so different. On a good note he will keep his weekends off! We have been so fortunate for him to have them off so we can spend time together! The gym will now be my new best friend, along with the numerous books I have gotten recently but haven't started yet. Hopefully they will keep me entertained, if not the dogs will!

Our dogs are such characters! JP brought home a frisbee the other day from a training session for the dogs. Gunner LOVES it! He has caught it in the air a couple of times and has finally learned to drop it at your feet so you can throw it again. Tuck tries to take it away from him and sometimes succeeds and other times they run side by side both with a part of the frisbee in their mouth. They crack me up!

Hope you all have a great week!

Camping

So the last two weeks we have stayed super busy! This past weekend we went to Palo Dura Canyon for a camping trip! I checked the weather on Wednesday and it was supposed to be 80 degrees. So we woke up early Saturday morning and went on our little adventure! Once we got there we set up the tent and then set out on an adventure to find the hole rock. Once we found it and climbed a couple more rocks/hills we went into Canyon to get some things that we forgot. There Wal-Mart was super hard to find, luckily the friendly folks at Braums gave us directions. My lime sherbet was super yummy...it's my fave! Back at the campsite we went on another adventure behind the tent, but it wound up at the road, so it was no fun! As it got closer to dark we cooked hotdogs over the Coleman stove, we couldn't use a fire due to the burn ban. The showers that night were an experience. JP had said that he had seen a scorpion in the bathroom earlier. When I turned on the water a huge scorpion came up out of the drain...then I picked up my towel to move it and there was another one that was even bigger!! Needless to say that was one of the quickest showers I have ever had, I didn't want to stink, but then again I didn't want to be stung. Since we didn't have electricity at our site I used the outside plug in for the big campers, while JP watched the turkeys. The weather that night blew us away...literally! JP was sure it got down to 38 good thing his sleeping bag was made to keep you warm in weather that was 40 degrees. I had brought a blanket...JP said that it would make up for the 2 degrees that the sleeping bag didn't cover....HAHA YEAH RIGHT! We had brought our blow up mattress and it flattened out by the end of the night. It was super cold!!! The next morning we got up to go on a 6.5 mile hike/walk. I realized I'm not in any shape at all! JP had to stop and wait on me most o the way, but I didn't stop. He ended up climbing to the Lighthouse, I wasn't about to climb that final STEEP point. It was a great trip! We really had a good time, definitely something I would want to do again! Anyone want to join us???

The New Job

So the new job is quiet interesting. All this week I have been putting vendor information into the computer system and filing old vendor folders. Our department is responsible for all of the city purchasing...anything from the new police department vehicles that were delivered Friday to the various city beautification projects or the Martha Sharp freeway that has been in the works for a couple of years I think. Everything goes through us. We put together the bids and award the contracts for all of the projects throughout the city. I will be working closely with almost all of the city head departments when we are making up contracts to ensure all of the signatures are on the contracts before they go to a city council meeting. Other than the fact that there were a hundred names thrown at me this week, I think it will be ok. It all takes time I know. So far I think that everyone likes me. One of the ladies stopped me on the way out the door the other day and said that behind my back everyone was saying that they were amazed how quickly I picked up on everything and thought I was doing great for my first week! We shall see how this week goes.

This week has been great for JP and I. We have ridden together every morning, had lunch together everyday, and made it home without getting sick of each other or ripping each other's head off. Not that I thought we would or anything! :) Many people get tired of being around someone so much, but I think it's been good for us. This weekend we have kinda made up for all the time together, he's addicted to his new PS3 game that he got Friday and conquered today. I've been reading an interesting book, The Shack. I saw the book before Christmas and almost got it then, but decided against it. So far it's kept me going. I'll let you know if it's worth reading or not after I finish it. It's definitely not like the Twilight series or Dracula books that I've read lately!

A New Day!

So after last week JP and I are excited about a new week! I subbed for 2 different high schools. The first group was very easy. I had a pre-cal class and then an English class, where we go to watch Pride and Prejudice 5 times...well at least the last half. The second school was a different story! The first day I wanted to pull my hair out! They yelled the whole time they were supposed to be working on super easy worksheets and then cussed at me. I had finally had enough then and got the principal to the classroom. That day I sent 7 kids to the office...they all thought I was playing! Oh well...the second day was better with a video about Iraq, but they still wouldn't stay quiet! Where has respect gone to? I remember being scared of getting in trouble, not only at school but when I got home, I knew it would have been 10 times worse. These kids have no fear of anything! Thankfully I got a call Tuesday about a possible interview with the city of Lubbock. Friday I went for the interview and got the job! I started today at city hall as Administrative Assistant for the Purchasing Department. It will take some time to get used to get settled in but it will be a good job!
Poor JP had Friday the 13th on Tuesday. The academy made him resign, and then found him a job as a dispatcher until the next academy starts. Saturday was the testing for the next one that starts in June/July. He passed with flying colors! Everyone was glad to see him there and told him they better see him in the gym everyday until June! He is such a strong man and I'm very proud of him!

Hot Lime Jello...

On days like today I miss being a kid! Last Friday while subbing, I had 2 kids sent home for being sick. Since I haven't been sick in a while, I should have seen it coming! Saturday night I felt my throat getting sore and sure enough Sunday morning I was cruddy! Today was worse than yesterday...but vitamin C, off brand DayQuil, and cider have helped me survive. I say it makes me miss being a kid, because when I was sick three thing that was certain was a doctor visit (which I hated), a trip to McDonald's, if I got a shot, for a Happy Meal, and hot lime Jello that GrandySue was sure would make it all better! I always loved curling up on the couch with a blanket, watching cartoons/whatever GrandyMack was watching, and sipping on hot lime Jello! Tomorrow should be a better day...hopefully! High school here I come...again! :)
JP kinda had a rough day today. He did good on his test today but has a chance tomorrow to do better. We stayed up until 12 studying for that test and then he woke up again this morning at 4:30 to study some more. Needless to say he is taking a nap before studying anymore today. Push-ups are still getting him down.
Some have asked what happened to his hair. Well, JP had the idea that we could do it ourselves instead of paying the $12 every 2 weeks to go get it done. So we went and bought a kit. He hopped into the tub, so not to get hair everywhere, and began to start working on it. I came in and he wanted me to shave the bottom and then blend it. Easy right? NO...so we ended up shaving it all off. He said he didn't want to worry about fixing it everyday...so it's stayed like that for now. I'm not such a fan of it but it's starting to "grow" on me.

HELLO FRIENDS!

Hey everyone! Since we are so far away and it's hard to stay in contact with everyone, I have stolen my friend Lindsey's idea, and have decided to try to keep up a blog of things that are going on in our life in Lubbock. I will try to update it every week or sooner if something big or excited happens.
JP has a test over authorities to arrest and is the co-leader this week! He has two chances to ace it, one tomorrow morning and then again on Tuesday, so he has been studying hard! He is working so hard and I'm very proud of him!
I have been subbing away! This past week I subbed for a 1st grade class! Let me tell you they were a handful! Some of them were so sweet and others made me want to pull my hair out. It made me glad I wasn't the lady that had 8 babies this past week...added to the 6 she already had! This week I'm going to be in a high school class so maybe it will be better!
We hope everyone has a great week!
